Dear neigbor...

...pretty lights in the sky, good. Strings of firecrackers and other whistly bangy things, not so much.

Damn, I'm getting old.

Firecrackers and other things that go "boom!" or "ka-boom!" or even just "bang!" are a pain, that the lights in the sky were meant to alleviate.

Living as I do to a Seattle Housing Authority complex, filled with various families who apparently felt that a bus to Lake Union was out of the question, I too suffered through a series of events that made me wonder what it might have been like if the perimeter had been breached, so to speak.

I have a neighborhood pal who is a Marine who served in Vietnam. (It has been explained to me that there are no ex-Marines, just as there are no ex-Chief Petty Officers.) He suffers from PDST (post traumatic stress disorder) and has shown me the results of a head wound he suffered, one of three bullets that went clean through left on his person.

For guys like that alone, we shouldn't have to putz around with people who want to put together a cheap recreation of a combat zone.

If you're getting old brother, I'm right there with you. As George Burns once said, it beats the alternative.
