Notice the current president dispensed with any nonsense about "mission accomplished." Not only is he intelligent to understand what might come next - what the CIA calls "blowback" - but he correctly gave credit where it's due. Still, it begs the question of why he was able to see the elimination of the titular head of al Qaida, while the other guy simply gave the excuse that it didn't matter anymore (after the battle of Tora Bora)?
Sometimes, steely reserve trumps - pun not intended - ill-informed arrogance. In fact, it does that most times. Remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?
