Mainly, it was that Pawlenty really had nothing to say. He ran on his resume and that's just not enough to win the presidential nomination, anymore. If it had been, in 2008, the Democratic nominee would've been someone other than Barack Obama.
The GOP race is going to get very weird, before - or if - it gets back to normal. The entrance of Governor Perry into the race ensures that. The next few debates will focus on Perry and Bachmann, because they make good copy, not because they make good candidates.
