From the "Since you asked…" file.

Steven Thomma of the McClatchy Newspapers can't help but wonder
Is President Barack Obama worried about a surprise in the Democratic primary this January in New Hampshire?
Since you asked, Steven, no. I'd put White House confidence in the Democratic nomination at 100%, and they're 100% justified in that confidence.

Not even a nice try.

Criticism is always easy to lob, instead of alternatives. So the people who criticize the president seems now to include a lot of Seattle progressives who feel, according to a bit of probing, "He didn't do enough" or "Isn't doing enough."

Ask any of them who else they'd rather see in the White House and they will only say, "None of the Republicans!" Ask them what they'd actually want the president to do, to help stoke the economy and most folks in Seattle have no idea (save for the "jobs" mantra). Certainly, making the head of General Electric the "jobs czar" was a questionable move - one most people have forgotten (unless they watched "60 Minutes," about a month ago).

Jon Huntsman should have changed parties. Hillary Clinton might have a chance to quit her current job and go for the one she really wanted in the first place. People do want an alternative, just as they did to the sitting president in early 1968; when that president decided not to run, under pressure in his own party. If it hadn't been for an assassin, the country likely would've had another President Kennedy.

But these are volatile times again, and anything could happen in the coming year - even the Revenge of Romney. He might be doing for his dad, as well as himself.
