The October 2011 issue of Car and Driver magazine had an very interesting interview with Vice President Biden; his late father managed a variety of auto dealerships, over 34 years - mostly GM, but also a Chrysler and a Ford store, at different times. The Vice-President himself owns a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette; which the Secret Service will not let him drive, according to what's said in the interview (no exact reason given).

He was an excellent and informed addition to the team that figured out if it was worth going forward with the bailout that former President Bush and former Secretary of Treasury Hank Paulson inititiated with TARP (Troubled Asset Relief Program) monies. Those people who think that everything would have worked out, equally well or better, via Chapter11, don't know what they're talking about.

That magazine can still be found in libraries, if you don't subscribe. It's on the first last page of copy, just before the inside ad fold, under a heading for that section called "What I'd Do Differently."

By the way, the Vice-President's response to that question was, "When the presidency the first time (laughing). See, if I'd won in '88, the industry would never have been in trouble."

Typo in last post (don't know why). It's in the last sentence by the Vice-President and should begin with, "Win the presidency the first time..."
